A thoughtful and helpful column from a UCC pastor whose background is Roman Catholic, directed primarily towards her Protestant sisters and brothers who don’t have much experience with or knowledge about Catholic religious orders.
I especially appreciated her comparison of the classic Protestant and Catholic responses to authority and to disagreement: these are important differences in ecclesiology that are not articulated very often.
She offers four suggestions of how to respond, to which I would add one more request: please pray for all those involved, both privately and when you gather for worship.
