September has always been my favorite time of year: a time for new beginnings, legacy of all those years growing up when September meant new clothes, new shoes, new pencils, new books, new teachers, all those exciting new things that come with going back to school to start a new year.

This year I’ve been especially attuned to the turning of the season in the natural world, as the signals of summer ending start to come in: days getting shorter, high temperatures getting lower, weather patterns shifting, geese starting to fly in from the north. At the same time, everything in the human world starts kicking into high gear: there’s more going on this month that I’d like to do than there has been all summer.

So, although I didn’t actually plan it this way, I’m glad to be starting this blog in September.
