Advent, Day 7: Questions, Questions, Questions

You know that thing where you read a story from scripture and ask yourself, who in this story do I identify with? I did that thing. This is what happened.

Word and verse below the jump.

Word: For Fuck’s Sake
Verse: John 1:21

So they asked him, “What are you then? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.”

For fuck’s sake, where did those labels come from?

For fuck’s sake, who are you, then?

For fuck’s sake, who are these dudes, anyway?
Where did they come from? Who sent them?
What are they gonna do to me if I don’t answer?
Or if they don’t  like my answer?

For fuck’s sake, who is this dude?
Look at him – doesn’t he have a house, a family?
Where are his people?

For fuck’s sake. Doesn’t my message
speak for itself?

Stop blocking rush hour traffic, for fuck’s sake!
That’s no way to get support for your message!

We are not protestors. We are water protectors.
Get it right, for fuck’s sake!

Aren’t you supposed to be following Martin Luther King?
He didn’t believe in violence, for f***’s sake!

For fuck’s sake, have you even read Martin Luther King?
A riot is the language of the unheard!

Who are you?
What do you have to say for yourself?

Who are you?
What do you have to say for yourself?

What did you go into the desert to see?
A man, luxuriously clad?
Really, what did you go into the desert to hear?
A herald’s voice ringing loud and clear, aaah, aaah –

And his name was John.

One Response to Advent, Day 7: Questions, Questions, Questions

  1. I couldn’t find the song on YouTube, so figured I’d post a link for those curious enough to pay a buck to hear it.
